Here’s What The Most Expensive Milkshake In The World Looks Like

Milkshakes are one of the more odd sweet treats out there. There are certainly times I’m craving one, and a few (like P Terry’s limited-edition butter cookie offering) that impress. But generally, if I’m going to be spending the calories on a sweet treat, I’d much rather prefer a cake, pie, cookie, brownie, or ice cream as opposed to a milkshake. Typically, milkshakes leave me feeling more sluggish than other desserts, and they’re usually quite costly.

Of course, cost is all relative, and perhaps spending $6 on a chocolate shake won’t seem so bad after you read this: New York’s Serendipity 3 just broke the Guinness World Record for the most expensive milkshake. To celebrate National Vanilla Milkshake Day earlier this week, the restaurant developed its new LUXE Milkshake worth a whopping 100 dollars.

So What’s All Inside This Milkshake?

Each ingredient was individually selected by Serendipity 3’s Creative Chef, Joe Calderone. And there’s a solid amount of excess inside. Let’s hop into the blender (but not really, that would hurt). I’ve included copy from the press release I received. It’s pretty ridiculous as it is – I’ll add my comments in brackets.

  • Jersey Milk – Made from cows originally bred in the Channel Islands, which are popular for the high butterfat content. [So you know it’s goooood.]
  • Tahitian Vanilla Ice Cream – Sourced from premium slow-grown, sun-cured vanilla beans. [Anything that’s sun-cured makes me weary, since I’m so pale.]
  • Devonshire Luxury Clotted Cream – Produced in Devon Cornwall, England, this thick, rich cream is made from heating fine milk until a thick layer of golden cream forms on the surface [Give me all of the golden ice cream!]
  • Madagascar Vanilla Beans – As the most labor intensive to grow, the Madagascar vanilla plants, Vanilla Planifolia, take 1-3 years to produce beans that are intense in flavor. [I simply do not have the patience for this kind of thing.]
  • 23K edible gold – This pure and edible gold creates a glimmering, golden sparkle when mixed with the other ingredients. [Y’all, I found the most costly ingredient! Though Bruno Mars would be disappointed that it’s not 24K magic in the aiiiiiirrrrrr.]
  • Whipped Cream – A grass-fed cream, infused with a simple syrup of sugar and vanilla. [Meh.]
  • Le Cremose Baldizzone (Donkey Caramel Sauce) –  This rare sauce that is sweet and unique in flavor is made from Venezuelan cocoa, Piedmont hazelnuts, fresh Donkey Milk, and cane sugar. [Donkey Milk! Does it come with a talking Shrek?]
  • Luxardo Gourmet Maraschino Cherries – Produced in Luxardo, Italy, these cherries are dense and chewy with a sweet-tart flavor made with prized sour Marasca cherries and preserved in the fruit’s famed liquor. [These aren’t your standard cherries, that’s for sure.]

No, I Will NOT Make A “Brings All The Boys To The Yard” Joke

Of course, this exercise in decadence also featured a custom milkshake glass. This glass had more than 3,000 Swarovski crystals on it. I’d be so nervous I’d drop the whole thing that…well, I’d probably drop the whole thing.

But this isn’t a milkshake for simpletons like me. No, when you spend $100 on a milkshake, you’re probably not even planning on drinking it. It’s merely a status symbol to be waved around, tucked neatly between your Rolex and chihuahua purse.

Serendipity 3 now owns (or previously owned) seven Guinness World Records titles. Their Golden Opulence Sundae dessert – valued at $1,000 – makes the LUXE milkshake look like an outright steal. They’re also the proud owners of “most expensive sandwich” and previously enjoyed the crowns of “most expensive hamburger,” “most expensive hot dog,” “largest wedding cake,” and “largest cup of hot chocolate/cocoa.”

Perhaps you’re as surprised as me that there are Guinness World Records for these kinds of things. Then again, it’s getting us talking, so maybe Serendipity 3 is genius, after all. What say you? Would you give this milkshake a try?
