Places: Javaman Coffee

A coffee shop can take a variety of forms. Some thrive on coffee and nothing else. Others offer a comforting, quirky atmosphere. Still others feature tasty treats like pastries or breakfast sandwiches. Sometimes, you’ll get really lucky and discover a spot that includes all three. Javaman Coffee in Humble, TX is one of those places.

Highlights: Alba Crepe, The Sky’s Creper, New Orleans-Style Beignets

Not All Heroes Wear Crepes

I’ve never been the biggest fan of crepes, but Javaman Coffee’s is really darn tasty. The Sky’s Creper is my personal favorite: bacon, sausage, egg, onions, hash browns, cheddar jack cheese with a bit of nacho cheese drizzled on top. Even more impressively, the crepe has a real sturdiness to it. Perhaps I’m just going to the wrong coffee shops, but most breakfast pastries or sandwiches I’ve had are brittle and crumble apart like my broken dreams of reaching the NBA. The ones at Javaman stayed intact throughout, which was much appreciated.

Hip, Hip, Beignet!

For those who enjoy sweet treats with their morning cup of joe, Javaman offers three beignets for $3.55. The crepes were plenty filling, but there’s something oddly satisfying about getting powdered sugar all over the place. The New Orleans-style delicacy is every bit as sweet as you’d imagine, and it pairs perfectly well with the variety of coffees Javaman serves. Speaking of…

But How’s the Coffee?

A coffee shop can have all sorts of bells and whistles, but their coffee better be good, too. Javaman doesn’t disappoint in this regard. Grab all sorts of classics, from Americanos to cappuccinos and caramel macchiatos. I picked up a classic latte on my visit, opting not to go with one of the 18 varieties of syrup – though if you prefer a little more sweetness in your coffee, several of the flavored syrups looked appealing.

Javaman also has a really enjoyable atmosphere. The music isn’t obtrusive, and though I wasn’t going to get work done, I could easily curl up at a table with my laptop and a coffee and bang a lot of things out. The walls are also adorned with all sorts of kitschy decorations, which is a big plus in my book. The next time you’re craving a stop at a coffee shop, check out Javaman and turn the whole endeavor into a hearty breakfast or brunch.
