Fives: Christmas Treats
Merry Christmas! This is always a special time of year, with family, friends, and just that sense of holiday cheer in the air. But perhaps the best aspect of the whole season is all the delicious Christmas treats. It’s easy to go wild and overindulge, but hey, it’s cold outside! Gotta stay warm somehow, right?
There’s a ton of tradition that comes with the holidays. With that in mind, here’s a look at my favorite Christmas treats. Of course, new traditions are always welcome too, so feel free to share your top goodies, too!
5. Eggnog
Andy from The Office might prefer a “nog-a-sake,” but I think eggnog is actually better sans alcohol. A little nutmeg shaved on top is all I need. The thickness of the drink makes it tough to drink too much – though maybe that’s a good thing.
4. Peppermint Bark
I had a peppermint milkshake the other day which was absolutely delightful. What a refreshing flavor! Peppermint bark may actually exist year-round, but it’s much more prevalent around the holidays. And that’s for the best, since I can eat square after square of these things. As a bonus, it smells pleasant and can even improve your breath. It’s the perfect after-dinner treat.
3. Chocolate-Covered Pretzels
Pretzels on their own are only so-so. But they’re such a versatile snack because they pair well with just about anything. Fill ’em with peanut butter? Amazing. Dip ’em in guacamole? Yes, please. Cover ’em in chocolate? GIVE ME ALL OF THEM. For a little beautiful pretzel inspiration, check out Blonde Girl Food‘s incredible pretzel showcase made from ingredients already in her pantry. Being able to make something super tasty with ingredients you already have is the best feeling in the world.
2. Gingerbread Men
These silly men often sing about how you can’t catch them, but I’ll let you in on a little secret: they’re pretty easy to nab when they’re sitting on a plate. Half the fun of gingerbread men is in the creation. I’ve spent many a winter day putting little frosting shoes, hats, shirts, pants, and other accouterments on a gingerbread man. Of course, you’ll have to snap a few photos before chowing down, because it’s good to appreciate your art from time to time.
1. Christmas Cookies
Okay, what is it about Christmas cookies that are so addictive? I typically am not a fan of sugar cookies, whether they’re topped with sugar or sprinkles. Yet if you put them in the shape of a snowman, tree, or star, I suddenly can’t get enough of them. It’s the strangest phenomenon ever. Grab one or a hundred of these Christmas treats and have a very happy holidays.
