Footnotes: Kraft Mac and Cheese Cheesy Slide Commercial
I was reminded of this Kraft Mac and Cheese commercial earlier tonight, so naturally, I needed to revisit it. And it’s just as weird as I remember! Perfect for those of us with short attention spans, this advertisement manages to cram in nine different segments into one 30-second spot. Pretty impressive! Of course, there are a few standouts.
The Kraft Mac and Cheese Beach
Excellent use of the word “inexorably” here. It’s also quite entertaining to watch the little cheese caterpillars (or whatever they’re supposed to be) scooting along the beachfront.
The Kraft Chia Pet
Did you ever have a Chia Pet as a kid? I’ve never actually experienced one in person, but I’ve heard some fairly mixed results so I feel like I’m not missing much. But a mac and cheese Chia Pet? Count me in. Even in just a few seconds, you can see how quickly this thing sprouts what appears to be ready-to-eat macaroni and cheese. What a product!
The Kraft Boy Band
This is my favorite part of the whole commercial. “I’ve Got the Blues” is a super catchy diddy that’ll be stuck in your head like the latest Bruno Mars jam. The rhythmic dance moves of the noodles are also quite fascinating to watch, while & Cheese is maybe the first time in music history that a band’s name starts with an ampersand. Kraft was really ahead of its time, wasn’t it?
