Let’s Go To Revelry Kitchen + Bar! A Restaurant Review
There are so many places in the lovely city of Austin that I call “walk-by spots.” This can be any type of locale – a restaurant, a bar, a store, a barbershop quartet outlet mall. I pass by these places and think “huh, that’s nice, I’ll have to stop by someday.” The problem is that I’m always on my way to another place when I see these walk-by spots. I’ll recognize ‘em any day of the week, but I’ve never ventured inside. That was the case with Revelry Kitchen + Bar until a recent AFBA happy hour. And my oh my, am I glad we visited.
Revelry Kitchen + Bar has a nice lil’ setup on East 6th street. And soon, it’ll be opening up on North Lamar. I obviously cannot speak to the location that isn’t open yet, but if it’s anything like what I experienced on 6th…hoo boy. Y’all are in for a treat.
Spirits and Cocktails, Oh My!
Obviously, you want your bar to have some delightful drinks. Revelry Kitchen + Bar delivers that IN SPADES. Call ‘em a deck of cards, in fact. Because spades? I’m a riot.
We got to sample four spectacular drinks during our visit. I would go into detail about them, but that’s the beauty of Revelry – the menu changes so often, even if you’re not digging anything on a particular visit, you’ll find something you like next time. But I have a hard time believing you’ll hate a single thing on the menu. All of the dranks were wonderful.
Actually, I do want to give a special shout out to the Come Hither. This was a real simple one, but sometimes those are the best. Mezcal, ginger honey syrup, and lime juice. You could probably make it at home, though I doubt it’d be as refreshing. Not that I don’t trust your drink-making skills, it’s just that’s something I like to leave to the professionals, you know?
All of the Noms
The North Lamar location in particular is going to have a heavy focus on foods. And that’s a good thing, because the foods we sampled were MAGICAL. Their watermelon and cucumber salad felt like running through a sprinkler but without the after effects of being soaking wet. Obviously watermelon and cucumber was involved, but there’s also dehydrated olives, sumac onions, feta cheese, crisp lavash, arugula, and a host of other seasonings and accoutrements. The chips accompanying it were equally as magical. It was like Harry Potter up in there.
In fact, here’s a photo of said dish. Marvel at it.
Additional Notes
Literally everyone at Revelry Kitchen + Bar is super friendly. Even the one bartender that I nearly took out en route to the bathroom. That’s a huge plus in my book.
Here’s an example of that in action: one of my friends is the mayor of Revelry Kitchen + Bar on Yelp. That typically gets you absolutely nothing of value, other than pride, maybe. But the folks here went out of their way to make her a freakin’ tiara. Anytime she visits, they bring it out for her. That’s just spectacular all around. Kudos to a job well done.
