Wild Chix & Waffles Re-Opens Today With New All Gluten-Free Menu
I need to tell you about this AWFUL drive I took in Austin the other day. I was headed up to the AFBA happy hour to spend some time with a group of wonderful people. However, there was a mild bit of rain during the drive. And as anyone who has driven in Austin knows, the rain makes people forget how to drive. What was supposed to be a little less than half an hour on the road turned into an hour and 20 minutes. I was LIVID. But then I stepped into Wild Chix & Waffles off of Burnet and all my troubles subsided.
We were fortunate enough to sample the new menu from Wild Chix & Waffles, which debuts TODAY, December 11. This menu is full of goodies, and literally every single thing on said menu is gluten-free. And yes, that includes their chicken and waffles.
The Menu Highlights
There are a pair of waffle dishes on the Wild Chix & Waffles menu to call out: the What the Cluck and the Gone Bananas. The former is a spicy little number, with maple glazed fried chicken, thick-cut bacon, cheese and sriracha mayo. Of course, the cherry on top is a sunny-side up egg. If an egg is involved, life is GOOD.
Meanwhile, the Gone Bananas is your dessert option. You’ve got Nutella and sliced bananas, and the whole thing is topped with powdered sugar. I don’t know how something so simple is so tasty, but here we are. And I ain’t mad about it.
There are also three new salads on the menu, my personal favorite being the Aloha Beaches. This glorious behemoth combines yellowfish tuna with cucumber, avocado, cherry tomatoes, a whole host of other greens and veggies, and a mix of fried garlic and fried onions with sriracha mayo and shoyu dressing. Even if you don’t know what that is, just know it leads to excessively yummy results.
Wild Chix & Waffles Has Bomb Drinks, Too
I don’t know if I’ve ever said, “you know, I could use some booze with my waffles.” But now that I’ve tried it, I think it may have to become a regular part of the rotation. The delightfully named I Love You So Matcha (sake, matcha, condensed milk) is a top choice.
There are three varieties of margaritas that you can order–including the Big Clucking Margarita, which is 48 ounces!– and I will approve of all the choices.
Other Notes
Real precious photos adorn the walls. You’ll find video walls of pups, cartoon waffles, and knick-knacks like a wooden hand making a “rock on!” symbol. There are board games available to play, and yes, I will defeat you in Connect Four.
And the staff is SO nice. That really does make a difference. They’re happy to chat, provide recommendations, or take a silly photo for you. Because you know I love those. Go check out Wild Chix & Waffles and enjoy yourself.
