Nolan Ryan Opens Goodstock, His First Boutique Butcher Shop

I don’t get up to Round Rock super often, but man, they are making it tough to stay away. The latest addition? Goodstock, a brand new butcher shop from Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan. I sadly am too young to have seen much of Ryan’s career, but I remember catching the occasional appearance as a kiddo (I was the kiddo; Nolan Ryan was already in his mid-40s) and still being impressed. I’m fully onboard with any endeavor he’s working on, but this new shop looks spectacular even without the name behind it.

The full-service boutique shop offers two new lines of Goodstock beef, prepared by an in-house butcher, as well as complementary Texas-sourced artisan products. Ryan has been raising cattle for more than 40 years and has more than two decades of beef production, so he knows his stuff.

Goodstock aims to be a destination store for Texans and visitors alike. On top of great cuts of beef, customers can also get some knowledge around preparing their meat, whether they’re grilling it, pan-frying it, or juggling it. Though the last one is not recommended, by Nolan Ryan or myself.

New Cuts of Beef

Nolan Ryan Brands is already the only beef company in Texas that offers U.S.D.A.-Certified Tender beef and U.S.D.A. Choice beef. That means tender, juicy cuts of meat (a.k.a. “the good stuff”). Here’s a look at the two new cuts of Goodstock products:

  • Goodstock AngusĀ is aged to perfection so it’s consistently juicy and tender.
  • Goodstock Black LabelĀ is Nolan Ryan’s highest-quality beef, hand-selected from All-American cattle, and custom-aged.

If you’re not in a beef mood, there’s still plenty to check out. Other Nolan Ryan food offerings include hot dogs, sausage, fajita meat, and barbecue offerings. You’ll also find grills, grilling tools, and a selection of specialty foods and wines from local producers and artisans. Perhaps it’s no surprise that, in true Texas spirit, there’s a big sense of collaboration and promotion of local goods.

We haven’t had baseball yet this year. But thankfully, Nolan Ryan is stepping up to the mound to deliver some action of his own.
