Footnotes: There’s No Wrong Way to Eat a Reese’s
Let’s just get this out of the way right now: Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are delicious. They’ve tried to tinker with the design over the years, like putting Reese’s Pieces inside of a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, or combining them with Oreo’s, or turning them into wafers. None of those (aside from maybe the chocolate Reese’s eggs that only pop up around Easter) can hold a candle compared to the original. So it’s only natural that a commercial showcasing the original is pretty entertaining. The motto is that “there’s no wrong way to eat a Reese’s” – a statement that hundreds of thousands of Americans no doubt put to the test, attempting to ingest Reese’s in the weirdest ways possible. Sadly, “cutting a hole in your stomach and just shoving it there” makes the list.
There’s No Wrong Way to Eat a Reese’s
Our beloved commercial below features child prodigy Charlie Armstrong and race car driver Bill Elliott eating their Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups in very different ways. Charlie unleashes an outrageous domino-esque contraption. The camera gets blurry at times, but I count at least 32 different Reese’s packages in the setup. Could you imagine eating 64 Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups in one sitting? What if Charlie ate a package every time he failed? That would be the most delicious catastrophe ever. It’s also impressive – albeit highly unrealistic – that the final package is able to catapult a Reese’s directly into Charlie’s hand. The last time I opened a package of anything up and tipped it over, it immediately spilled onto the floor and was inhaled by one to two dogs. It did not go into my hand for a stylish snack.
Meanwhile, Bill Elliott is living the dream. He gets his chair polished, his shoes shined, and a Reese’s placed into his eager paws. Whenever I eat a Reese’s on a giant armchair, things get dirtier, not cleaner. I envy Bill Elliott’s Reese’s service, though it’s unclear if he receives the same treatment for all candy bars.
