Footnotes: Silly Rabbit, Trix Are For Kids Commercial
Trix cereal has been around for 63 years. The rabbit mascot was introduced just one year later, and he’s been suffering ever since. He can’t get his hands on any on “orangey orange,” “lemony yellow,” and “raspberry red,” and all these kids sure love reminding him of it. That poor rabbit.
Or maybe it’s for the best. After all, the original Trix cereal had 46 percent sugar. Can you imagine a small rabbit ingesting that much sugar? He’d be bouncing around the walls more than a robust ball of Flubber.
Will He Ever Get To Try Trix?
Trix has changed quite a bit over the years. It’s gone from generic spheres to fruit-shaped pieces to a small palate of spherical colors back to six different fruit-shaped bites. And the rabbit has never pulled off one of his many heists to try and taste the sweet, sweet Trix nectar.
He’s donned all sorts of disguises, including a painter, a balloon vendor, and even a Native American, which seems like a radically 1970s thing to do that is horribly frowned upon today. Bugs Bunny also tried to help his fellow rabbit out once, to no avail.
In this ad, Trix Rabbit is posing as a milkman. He overhears two kids talking and learns they’re out of milk, so naturally, he comes to the rescue. But where does he get a six-pack of milk bottles? He appears to pull them from behind the very Trix box he was hanging out on mere moments ago. Surely those foolish kids would have seen the bottles on the table, right?
And aside from covering his ears with a generic “MILK” hat, Trix Rabbit makes no attempt to alter his appearance. He also grows about five times in size, perhaps a genetic result of being denied food so many times.
Despite a complete lack of subtlety, Trix Rabbit nearly gets a bite of the cereal before his ears perk up and literally knock his hat off of his head. The kids put him back in his rightful place on the cereal box.
Side note: is the boy the voice of Peppermint Patty? Sounds SUPER similar. I’m intrigued but could not find an answer for sure. They’re also both quite mean in their pranks, so there’s that.
