The Best Austin Pizza Spots
It’s safe to say I’m a bit of a pizza fiend. If you’re cooking up a pie, I’m coming by to enjoy it. Sometimes life really is that simple. Luckily, Austin has no shortage of quality pizza places. Whether you’re way up north, super down south, or anywhere in between, you’re covered. Here’s a look at the best Austin pizza spots.
5. Urban: An American Grill
Urban has a TON of yummy food, but their pizza was a real dark horse delight. I know there’s a big ol’ section of pizzas and sandwiches on the menu, but the place doesn’t SCREAM pizza, if that makes sense. It should scream it, though, because their ‘za is ‘zamazing. Since I’m a sucker for pesto, my go-to is their cleverly named pesto pizza. You really can’t go wrong with anything, though. Bonus points because the reheated leftovers next day are MONEY. That helps sneak it onto our best Austin pizza list.

4. Via 313
Okay, first off, I’ve only heard of Detroit-style pizza at Via 313, or when people are talking about Via 313. Friends who live in Detroit say it doesn’t exist, while Chicagoans claim it’s just a bastardized version of the Chicago pie. All of these theories could be correct, but here’s the important part: Via 313’s pizza is REAL good. They come in hearty rectangles with a thick, crispy crust. When the trailer is hanging out on Rainey Street, drunk people flock to it. Understandable, but hopefully you can score some before the line gets too long.
3. ABGB
ABGB probably has the best environment out of all the places on this list. The outdoor area is quite wonderful, while the long benches of the inside provide for some good large group action. There are also the charming little table numbers that feature images like Christopher Walken needin’ more cowbell. All of that combines for a welcoming atmosphere. But plenty of places have great atmosphere and don’t deliver on the food. Luckily, ABGB doesn’t fall into that trap. Their pizza is phenomenal, and comes in the patented “huge” size (not the real name of said size). Vegetarian options are available, but for meat eaters, it’s really hard to top the classic pepperoni. Those ‘ronis are enormous!
2. Home Slice Pizza
Homeslice was the first Austin pizza I ever had, and it still remains one of the best. You can get salad, antipasta and sandwich options, or you can be smart and gather ‘round for a pie. The “Tried and True” selections are classics for a reason – the Eggplant Pie is a personal favorite – but the customizability here is nearly endless. If you want to put olives, meatballs, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, broccoli, garlic, onions, and spinach all on one pie, GO WILD. It’ll probably run you close to $30 with all those extra toppings, but it’s nice to have the choice, you know? Also, one time a friend visited Home Slice and the server accidentally dropped a slice on the ground while serving the table. Home Slice provided an entirely new pizza for my friend and his date. That’s 1 and ⅞ pizza! Tremendous service deserves a nod.

1. Pinthouse Pizza
Here we are, our beautiful No. 1 selection for the best Austin pizza place. Pinthouse wins because of a great selection of terrific pies (with everything made in-house), plus strong customizable features. Oh, and the beer is fantastic as well. Their “Off the Map Pie” is usually a funky magical creation; July’s featured pickled onions, jalapeño, and peach-chipotle sauce. Pinthouse also has a friendly staff – they’ll let you sample beers, which is a plus. Also I was with a friend who wanted to get pizza because the smell was wafting over to our table and it smelled WONDERFUL. Unfortunately, the kitchen had just closed, but instead of telling my friend “tough luck,” they gave her a token for a free pizza next time. Ka-ching.
Do you agree with my list – are these the best Austin pizza spots? I’d love to hear from you! In the meantime, get out there and get you some pizza!
