Let’s Go to 68 Degrees Kitchen! A Restaurant Review

My oh my, Springtime in Austin is absolutely wonderful. The bluebonnets are in full bloom, the trees are green, and the sky is blue. But most importantly, the right meal can be more refreshing than anything else in the world. Luckily, the Austin Food Bloggers Alliance had a little happy hour at 68 Degrees Kitchen, located right off of MoPac on Lake Austin Blvd. How does it stack up?

Those colors, though!

Hello, My Name is Sal…Ed

The salads at 68 Degrees Kitchen are absolutely gorgeous. Doesn’t hurt that they taste incredible, too. The highlight is of course the Burrata and Beet bounty above, which is what we got to sample. I was thoroughly impressed by all of the salads I saw whizzing by our table. They’re a solid size and have a good amount of ingredients, which is key. I ain’t trying to nibble on a few pieces of lettuce and call it a day. I want some SUSTENANCE. 68 Degrees Kitchen delivers on that front.

If you can down all four of these in one sitting, you surely deserve some sort of medal.

No Impastas Here

Goodness, these headers are brutal. Luckily, they’re just the opposite of 68 Degrees’s pasta, which is FANTASTIC. My personal favorites were the Fettuccine with Portabella and Crimini Mushrooms – featuring spinach, fried artichokes, tomato, truffle oil, and parmesan cheese (mmm, mmm!) – and the Spaghetti Bolognese, which perfectly blends pasta with pork, veal, and beef ragù. It’s just like your mom used to make, if your mom was a culinary genius.

It’s okay if you try to eat this through your screen.

But For Real…You NEED to Save Room for Dessert

I’m very glad that there was a handful of us sharing dinner because that meant we all had room for dessert. And despite the highlights earlier, dessert might be the best of all. Clearly, the behemoth pictured above this very section holds a special place in my heart. Each bite of tiramisu – which includes ladyfingers, an ingredient I recently learned does not actually come from a lady – is like biting into a sweet, delicious cloud. You’re really doing yourself a disservice by not ordering one.

With happy hour every weekday 4:30 to 6 pm, 68 Degrees Kitchen should prove to be a popular hang all summer long. Just make sure to get there early so you can hog all the tiramisu for yourself. Or, you know, share, if you’re a less selfish eater than I am. Enjoy!
