Footnotes: You Are What You Weetabix Commercial

A very happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there! Thank you for putting up with our boundless energy and endless exploration when we were growing up. And if we’re being serious, that patience continues to this day. My dad will still hop on a bike to go riding around town with me, and it’s fabulous. That sort of “can-do” spirit is the basis of this delightfully cute Weetabix commercial.

Weetabix – Just as Much Fun to Say As It Is to Eat

The first time I had Weetabix was during a family vacation to New Zealand and Australia. I thought it was some version of Wheaties or Wheat Chex, two staples in my cereal rotation. It is not that, and I remember being fascinated by the giant blocks of cereal that lay in front of me. If you’ve never had Weetabix, the average size of one is roughly the width of the Empire State Building. It takes some serious panache to chomp one down.

But the benefits are plentiful: more fiber than you can shake a stick at, and minimal sugar, salt, and fat. No wonder it’s Britain’s favourite breakfast cereal (something I just learned right now). And of course, it’s very fun to say. Go ahead, give it a try. Wee-tuh-bicks. Amazing.

A Patient Dad Graces This Weetabix Commercial

We can only assume mom is out riding roller coasters, which means pops is in charge. Right away, this dad realizes he’s going to be put the test. We don’t even get five seconds into the commercial before the kid issues a challenge. Dad’s worried, but he knows he has his Weetabix helping him out.

And boy, does he need that extra oomph. This kid is getting piggyback rides around a grocery store. He’s taking over a playground and using every single playground apparatus available. He’s kicking horribly inaccurate soccer goals (timely with the World Cup going on). The moral of the story is this kid has way too much energy, and if dad can’t keep up, it’s the worst day ever.

Give Dad a Hug Today

Yes, it’s Father’s Day as I type this, but regardless of when you read it, let dad know he’s loved. Give him a hug, call him up, or send a carefully curated photo on social media. However you show affection, make sure he’s appreciated. Then go out and kick a soccer ball around until you both collapse on the pitch. It’ll still be more entertaining than that Morocco/Iran match was. Heyoooo! I got soccer jokes. Well, just the one. Just one joke. And it wasn’t even good. Then again, neither was that match, so…

In any case, this Weetabix commercial is one for all the dads in the world. Happy Father’s Day, y’all!
