Footnotes: Got Milk Commercial
Are you a big fan of milk? I sure am. I mean, you’re getting calcium and a bit of protein, plus I personally find milk delicious. That’s usually enough for me to take the plunge into enjoying a food or drink. I ain’t hard to please. Milk is at the topic of today’s footnotes, as we dive into this Got Milk commercial.
Why Won’t These Kids Listen?
For some reason, both the son and daughter here think milk is only for babies. Get out of here. I’ve spent like three decades on this Earth and I still think milk is delicious. These are probably the same type of kids who think Canada is in the Southern Hemisphere or lose Connect Four by the fourth turn.
I feel for the poor mom here. A simple request of “drink your milk” is met with derision. Mr. Miller – their neighbor – doesn’t drink milk, they say? And he looks just fine. But he’s not fine, is he?
A Got Milk Commercial Informing Us About Healthy Bones
One of my biggest fears as a child was breaking a bone. Now, as an adult, I’ve done it twice. I am 98 percent certain it’s because I’ve stopped regularly drinking milk. I would guzzle it as a kid. In cereal, by itself, as part of a cookie recipe…you name it, I was all about it.
I don’t think I ever thought THIS would happen, though. Can you imagine your arms just breaking off your body? That’s terrifying no matter how old you are. It’s like that SNL sketch where Phil Hartman is trying to set a new record for lifting weights. But instead he sets a new record for most arms lost (two) during a weightlifting event. And that’s gotta be disappointing.
A Couple Other Queries
First off, is this boy New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning? Watch this commercial and then look at Eli. Uncanny resemblance.
Secondly, I wish the girl in this commercial stood up for herself more. Everything is just an echo of what her big brother says. In fact, her only two lines are “yeah, babies” and “yeah.” What is this, an R&B song? Maybe drinking milk will help expand her vocabulary.
Anyway, these kids learned a valuable lesson today. If only we could all be educated so soundly. Enjoy the Got Milk commercial below.
