Teen Veggie Baker Alfonzo Williams Inspires With Nutritious Snacks
I’m all for great cooking stories. And when you can combine that with an entrepreneurial spirit? Even better. Let me tell you a bit about Alfonzo Williams.
The first time Alfonzo Williams saw a piece of broccoli, he cried. The 17-year-old lives in a majority-black Minnesota neighborhood that didn’t have access to much fresh produce at all.
So now, Williams is taking matters into his own hands by starting his own business. Using produce from their urban garden, Williams and his fellow bakers are educating students about vegetables.
Veggies Make for Delicious Baked Goods
Of course, you can still have tasty treats even if the core ingredient is carrots or zucchini. This took me awhile to realize (I was certainly older than 17), so it’s really cool to see someone like Alfonzo planting that idea into young minds.
And yes, I absolutely intended that pun.
Alfonzo’s story is chronicled in “60 Seconds Docs.” This series from Indigenous Media turns documentaries into bite-sized bits. After all, millennials really don’t have great attention span—look, a blue car!
