Product: Chef’s Rival Chopper
Here’s a simple fact: a TON of recipes require chopping. Sometimes it’s an easy task, like slicing up a cucumber. Other times, you’re dicing six or seven vegetables while simultaneously running four things on the stovetop and baking a holiday ham in the oven. I’m not speaking from personal experience at all…I just know a kitchen chopper is a critical component of any repertoire.
Anyway, I first heard about Chef’s Rival years ago at a grocery store (shout to Ralph’s!). I happened to have a free afternoon and wanted some prime time shopping, so I stopped in. A woman was doing a demonstration and since I’m always attracted to groups of people marveling at something, I walked over. She prepped a taco bowl in about three minutes. Pretty impressive for a recipe with no fewer than eight items to be chopped into miniature pieces.
Let’s Get Chopped!
I took a Chef’s Rival home that day. It’s treated me well over the years. It’s a pretty simple setup, with a small base to put your produce (or even chicken) in. Then you can use one of the master blades to slice and dice to your heart’s content. This kitchen chopper comes with a bonus, too: an egg separator. If you’re preparing a meringue or custard, this helps keep everything separate and delicious.
Chef’s Rival doesn’t use electricity, either, which makes it convenient to take on the go. I really enjoy that it uses a manual handle, so you can control your speed of chopping, slicing, or whipping. If you’re making, say, tomatoes for a salsa, you can ensure yours don’t get too foamy.
But really, this can handle just about anything. Onions, apples, pickles, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes – you name it. You’ll need to prepare a few items beforehand; core an apple or slice it into eighths before trying to chop it up. For speed and efficiency, though, it’s hard to beat this lil’ kitchen chopper. It’ll be your helper, not your rival.
