Places: The Peached Tortilla (Highlight: Banh Mi Taco!)

I like when my meals are both delicious and educational. In the case of Austin’s The Peached Tortilla, which provides southern comfort food with an Asian fusion twist (like a banh mi taco, YUM), I learned that “to get peached” means to be completely flavor smitten. I’m not sure if that’s a phrase that’s ever uttered outside of the walls of either The Peached Tortilla’s restaurant or food truck, but still, I appreciate the effort.

It helps the name make a lot more sense, too – this menu is loaded with tortillas (and that’s a good thing). I’ve dabbled in the establishment’s tacos before at catered events, but this was my first time visiting the restaurant. And wow, does this place know how to make a mean taco.

Highlights: Banh Mi Taco, BBQ Brisket Taco, #60 Fried Rice Bowl

We enjoyed some chips and kimchi queso, where the “chips” are actually hard-shelled tortillas that you can break into smaller pieces, and the #60 Fried Rice was a hearty bowl of Chinese sausage, shiitake mushrooms, scrambled egg, herbs, and very delightful sweet tea pickled red onions.

But let’s be honest, the tacos are the real show-stealers here. And good news for indecisive eaters! You can either pick up a Taco Trio or sample all five varieties with a Taco Tray. It’s actually a better idea to come here for lunch since there’s a bigger variety of tacos then. Who’da thunk it?

My personal top choices are the banh mi taco – Vietnamese braised pork belly, pickled daikon carrot, sriracha mayo, and cilantro – and the BBQ brisket taco, which drops dry-rubbed brisket, creamy apple slaw, and smoky roasted peach BBQ sauce all on one mouth-watering tortilla. Seriously, that sauce is incredible. If you order the BBQ brisket taco on a corn tortilla, it’s completely gluten-free. Nice!

Austin is certainly no stranger to amazing tacos. But The Peached Tortilla can give just about any one of those other tacos a run for its money. Stop by and get a trio for three times the yum. Or split a bowl if you’re not feelin’ like a tortilla. You can’t go wrong either way.
